He played for Mumbai Indians, Rajasthan Royals and Rising Pune Supergiant in the IPL. With very few chances in Mumbai, he moved to Rajasthan in 2012 and scored a match-winning 98 in the first match of the season. He had a pretty successful year in the 2012 season tournament, scoring over 550 runs at a healthy strike rate, including his maiden IPL century. were In fact, in the years 2012-16, Rahane cemented his position as the most consistent performer in the history of the tournament.

After the retirement of players like VVS Laxman and Rahul Dravid, the Indian selectors began the process of infusing youngsters for the big stage. Rahane was selected in the Test squad to play against the West Indies in November 2011. After 16 months due to an injury to Shikhar Dhawan, Rahane was finally selected in Indian cricket - Test cap number 278.


Rahane played in England in the Investec Test series England tour of India, 2014 and made a name for himself with a good showing. He scored a brilliant century in his first appearance at Lord's and earned his place on the honors board. Rahane's century ensured that India won at Lord's after a long wait of 28 years.

ODI career

He made his ODI debut against England at Chester-le-Street where he scored 40 runs at a strike rate of 90. He performed well in that series and the subsequent return series in which he scored a debut 50. He failed to perform well. After the series against West Indies, Sri Lanka and Pakistan, Rahane continues to move in and out of the ODI team despite being an important cog in the Test line-up. However, he did well enough to earn a ticket to the 2015 World Cup in Australia, where he played an admirable middle-order knock of 79 runs against South Africa.


He was overlooked for the 2019 World Cup squad that went to England. Despite India's No. 4 batting woes and Rahane's excellent record in England, the selectors gave him the side-eye. His exclusion angered many cricket pundits as India finally paid the price for a fragile middle order in the semi-finals.

T20I career

Rahane made his international debut for India in August 2011 in a Twenty20 International match against England at the Old Trafford Cricket Ground, Manchester. He scored a half-century in this match (61 off 49) against an England attack consisting of Stuart Broad, Graeme Swann and Timm. Bresnan. This match was the only T20I played by former Indian captain Rahul Dravid.

Was part of the Indian team that reached the final of the 2014 World T20. After sitting on the bench for the first three matches, he got a chance to play against Australia where he scored 19 runs. He gave India a good start in the semi-final scoring 32 runs as India won the match.
